Jane Bown

Jane Bown was a traditional portrait photographer who used natural and available lighting to capture portraits of some of the worlds most recognisable faces. Her photographs have deeply inspired me to capture a photograph representing the word 'decay', showing the decay of a persons skin and bones as they grow older.

Samuel Beckett

Rupert Murdoch
Jane Bown's work has inspired me to take a twist on the word 'decay', which photography usually focussed on the decay and decline of buildings and structures, and capture the decay of people as they age. These two photographs of Samuel Beckett and Rupert Murdoch perfectly showcase the style I am going for the capture this keyword. Black and white contrasted photography captures the wrinkles and contours in a person's face, therefore, expressing their decay more so than using colour would do.
